Depicts the lives of people who go through the difficult times after the Korean War to the present day. Young-Ja (Kim Yunjin) is Deok-Soo's (Hwang Jung-Min) first love. They eventually get married. Dal-Goo (Oh Dal-Su) is Deok-Soo's lifelong friend.
Yi-Hwan (Lee Min-Ki) is a former professional baseball player. He was involved in fixing games and lost everything. Gang boss Sang-Ha (Park Sung-Woong) runs a money lending business and a gambling location. He makes Yi-Hwan work for him. Meanwhile, Yi-Hwan falls for bar owner Yeon-Soo (Lee Tae-Im).
Gangland boss Kang (Kim Yeong-Cheol) suspects his girlfriend of being unfaithful and sends his trusted right hand man Sun-woo (Lee Byung-Hun), to sort out the problem. In an uncharacteristic moment of weakness, Sun-woo falls for Hee-Su (Shin Min-A), taken in by her grace and humanity.
